     Cat Treat Recipes


Cat Cookies

1 cup whole wheat flour
1/3 cup
soy flour
1 tsp Catnip (optional)
1 egg
2 Tbsp wheat germ
1/3 cup powdered milk
1 Tbsp unsulphured molasses
2 Tbsp butter or vegetable oil

Mix dry ingredients together; then add molasses, egg, oil, and milk. Roll out flat onto oiled cookie sheet and cut into small cat bite-sized pieces. Bake 20 min. at 350 F. Cool on a rack and store at room temperature in an airtight container.


Holy Mackerel Cat Treats

1/3 cup canned mackerel, drained and crumble
1 cup whole grain bread crumbs
1 egg, beaten
1 Tbsp vegetable oil or bacon grease
1/2 tsp brewer’s yeast (optional)
        
Combine all ingredients; mix well. Drop ¼ tsp dough 1 inch apart onto a greased cookie sheet. Bake 8 minutes at 350 F. Cool on a rack and store covered in the refrigerator.

     Dog Biscuit Recipes

Spot’s Golden Cheese Dreams

A nice elastic dough which makes a golden flaky chewy treat Makes about 3 dozen, depending on size of cutter.

3 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup shredded cheese
2 tsp garlic powder
1 egg, beaten
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 cup milk

Combine flour and garlic powder in a large mixing bowl. Make a well in the flour mixture; gradually stir in vegetable oil, cheese, beaten egg and milk until well blended. Knead dough on a floured surface, about 3 - 4 minutes. Using a rolling pin, mix dough to 1/2-inch thickness. Cut with K-9 Biscuit Cutter and place on a lightly greased baking sheet. Bake 25 minutes at 400°F. Cool on a rack and store at room temperature in a container with a loose-fitting lid.


MacDuff’s Peanut Butter Holiday Shortbread

Dough may be a little tricky to work with a/first, but makes a perfectly formed golden doggie shortbread Makes about 3 dozen, depending on size of cutter.
              
1-1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup peanut butter (smooth or chunky)
½ cup all-purpose flour
3/4 cup milk
1 Tbsp baking powder

Combine flour and baking powder in a large mixing bowl. in a small bowl, whisk peanut butter and milk until smooth. Make a well in the flour mixture; gradually stir in peanut butter mixture until well blended. Use hands to work dough into 2 pliable balls. The warmth from your hands will help make the dough more workable. Knead each dough ball on a floured surface for about 2 minutes. Using rolling pin, roll dough between ¼ and 1/2-inch thickness. Cut with K-9 Biscuit Cutter and place on a baking sheet lined with foil. Bake 15 minutes at 400°F. Cool on a rack and store in sealed, plastic bags in the refrigerator.
        
The Humane Society has a few dog bone cookie cutters, but it is okay to use stars or any other holiday-appropriate cutters.


Economy Cookies

Easy and economical to make.  A nice, light beige cookie. Makes about 3 dozen depending on size of cutter.

Ingredients:
¼ cup margarine (or butter), softened
¼ tsp garlic powder
3 cups whole wheat flour
3/4 cup water, room temperature
½ cup powdered skim milk
1 egg, beaten

In a large mixing bowl, cream margarine and flour with a pastry cutter; set aside. In a small bowl, dissolve powdered skim milk and garlic powder in water and whisk in beaten egg. Make a well in The flour mixture and gradually stir in egg mixture until well blended. Knead dough on a floured surface about 3 - 4 minutes, until dough sticks together and is easy to work with. Using a rolling pin, roll dough to between ¼ and ½ inch thickness. Cut with K-9 Biscuit Cutter and place on a lightly greased baking sheet. Bake 50 minutes at 325° F. Cool on a rack until hard and store at room temperature in a container with a loose-fitting lid.


Gourmet Food Processor Biscuits

Makes a beautiful, flaky golden biscuit!  Makes about 3 dozen, depending on size cutter.

¼ cup water
1 ¾ cups sharp cheddar cheeses shredded
2 eggs
3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
2 cups all-purpose flour
½ cup vegetable oil

Whisk water and eggs together in a small bowl and set aside. Put flour, cheese, garlic, and vegetable oil in the bowl of a food processor equipped with a steel blade. Pulsate about 5 seconds. Scrape sides of bowl. Pulsate another 5 seconds. Mixture should have the texture of coarse meal. With processor naming, drizzle in egg mixture until dough forms a ball. Divide dough into 2 balls, so it is easy to work with. Knead each dough ball on a floured surface for about 3 minutes using a rolling pin, roll dough to ¼ inch thickness. Cut with K-9 Biscuit Cutter and place on a baking sheet lined with foil. Bake 15 minutes at 400°F. Remove from oven and carefully turn each biscuit over. Continue baking another 10 minutes. Cool on a rack and store, at room temperature, in a container with a loose-fitting lid.
