The Society accepts
memorial and honorarium ("in honor of") donations. All such
donations are confirmed by letter to the donor. If the donor
indicates an individual to whom the donor wishes an
acknowledgement sent, we send an acknowledgement letter stating
a donation was made. This letter gives the donor's name and any
special text the donor specified regarding the memorial or
honorarium. We do not ever specify the amount of the donation in
such an acknowledgement letter. Memorials and honorariums (also
without a dollar amount) are also listed in our quarterly
newsletter
"Paws for the News". This newsletter is sent to
each donor for a year.
The Society accepts
unrestricted and restricted general donations which are also
acknowledged to the donor. Donations may be used for the
greatest need or for specific activities such as the Spay/Neuter
fund. Each donor will receive the quarterly newsletter for a
year.
The Society also
accepts a special donation to support a dog run in our dog
building. A plaque (with an "in memory of..... ", "in honor
of...........", or appropriate saying) will be mounted on
the supported dog run. Some of the runs that are being supported
memorialize a person, others a beloved animal. The amount of
such a donation is $3500.
The Society maintains a
"wish list"
of items needed for the Shelter. Items donated from the "wish
list" may be acknowledged as an 'in-kind' donation if the donor
desires.
Estate Planning:
The Humane Society has received many of its most significant
contributions in the form of bequests and being named as a
beneficiary. Your gift may reduce your income taxes, reduce or
possibly eliminate capital gain taxes, and remove assets from
your estate and possibly reduce your gift and estate tax.
Bequests are made through your will or revocable living trust.
There are several types of bequests: a Specific Bequest, which
describes exactly what you want to leave to a specific
organization and the designated source; a General Bequest, which
describes what you want to leave to a specific organization but
does not specify the source from which it should be paid; a
Residuary Bequest, which is honored after all other bequests
have been made and all debts, expenses and taxes have been paid;
and a Contingent Bequest, which is only fulfilled if certain
conditions are met. You can name the Humane Society as the
beneficiary of a Retirement Plan, Insurance Policy, or Bank
Brokerage and other Accounts. If you choose to include the
Humane Society in your estate planning, we should be named as
the Humane Society of Kerrville, a nonprofit corporation,
organized and existing under the laws of the State of Texas,
currently located at 2900 Junction Hwy. Kerrville TX 78028
(mailing address: P. O. Box 2190, Kerrville TX 78029). Our tax
identification number is 74-2388500.

What if HSK earned a penny every time we search the Internet?
Well, now we can GoodSearch.com is a new search engine that donates half
its revenue, about a penny per search, to the charities its users
designate. You use it just as you would any search engine, and it's
powered by Yahoo!, so you get great results.
Just go to www.goodsearch.com
and be sure to enter HSK as the charity you want to support in the
second block; click "Verify"; then enter your search criteria. Just 200
of us searching four times a day will raise almost $3000 in a year
without anyone spending a dime! And, be sure to spread the word!
