We
have a 24-hour waiting period on all adoptions. Potential adopters may
fill out an adoption request form which is reviewed and generally
approved by the staff of
the Shelter. However, sometimes, in the interest of the animal,
the adoption is denied.
Each animal adopted from the Shelter (if old
enough) has been spayed or neutered. If the animal is too young for
the procedure at the time of adoption, the adopter will be given a
certificate for a free spay/neuter at any of the Kerr County
veterinarians. All of our cats available for adoption have been
tested for feline leukemia and are negative. All of our dogs have
been tested for heartworm and are either negative or have been
treated before being put up for adoption. All of our adoptable
animals are current on their shots.
The adopter will need to sign an adoption agreement -- in which they
agree to spay/neuter the animal if it is not already spayed or
neutered. Adopters will need to show a valid ID photo or current
driver's license.
A
foster program is offered for those who are uncertain if the animal
will fit into their environment. Procedures followed are the same as
for an adoption -- however, if the animal does not get along with the
other animals belonging to the potential adopter, it may be returned
to the Shelter. After 7 days (usually), the animal must either be
adopted or returned to the Shelter.
